FIRST LAUNCH COMMENTS 2020

2023

Brilliant thinking from Don McIntyre – so far they look tough, ‘amusing’ and are crossing oceans The latest scow for the Mini Series division. Second-generation topsides treatment. Very aero After considerable sorting/beefing-up Raison’s Series Scow took its first Transat win in 2021 Interesting Mini scow from an interesting Italian yard more used to racing powerboats

Very clever… a sensible extrapolation of a modern Class40 now elongated to allow equal performance while adding some basic comforts for fast cruising. Up to 750 litres of water ballast can be carried each side. Draft is the same as a Class40 at three metres

Brilliant concept, huge numbers and now seems to have found a more enduring pro-am balance Super-intuitive and groundbreaking – a prime mover in making foiled sailing the norm Another big nose. Raison’s unbustable and hugely roomy aluminium scow-cruiser

Carkeek arriving in the performance cat market – they are built to a tight price by the builder made famous by Seaquest Yachts – and in particular the much admired Prima 38… Electric drive with the possibility of hybrid set-up

Light and trailerable former Tour Voile machines are now a high-performance bargain Tempting and swift folding tri – fast family weekend perfection

We say this is the best small J Boat and in 2024 it’s going back into production in France Very light full-foiling cat built for the Swiss lakes

Fast, pretty and with unusually good all-round visibility, the Balance 526 easily accommodates six plus a clever transformable salon table turns into an extra queen-sized bed. Sails like a bandit and does it all with 6ft 10in standing headroom!!!

Very chic and sportif little cruiser-racer from the Vrolijk team. Keenly priced too Series produced and with quite a ‘green’ build. Aimed at ORCi and ORC Sportboat Free-thinking, affordable and very cool-looking shorthanded racer. Boat 6 now underway Light, affordable, fast and sensitive to sail. Who needs Paris 2024 anyway?

The first few afloat and being trialled hard. At least 40 non-refundable deposits paid Boat 70 is on a ship. Lord Laidlaw deserves a prize for the idea and Mark Mills for the execution Successful (as usual). Aimed squarely at offshore and shorthanded racing Very pretty ORC yacht – also goes well in IRC. An all-round package to be proud of

In a word… ‘swish’. A new Italian offering with one of the most stylish yacht interiors we have seen for some time. The wrapper is cool too, an aggressive Carkeek all-carbon design built in female moulds delivering high luxury with a ballast ratio of 52%…

A welcome new face with a famous name in affordable fast-is-fun high-performance sailing Advanced (full foiling) takes on an increasingly popular meme

Match racer, ultimate pocket-cruiser… with foils (of course). Looks tangy

With the 6th and 7th Gunboat 68s nearing launch all the lessons learnt along the way have gone into its stretched replacement. The rig is moved aft with a larger Solent self-tacker; down below there is more space with improved flow passing through the boat

Downward curved foils, no water ballast, foils by Multiplast. Heat her up and she flies Futuristic and powerful one-design from a revitalised famous name

Winning boat winning yard winning skippers… (and then Lan Ael 3 appeared...) The foiling replacement for the all-conquering D35 lake cats is an immense machine
