Seahorse Magazine: Rio was your first Olympics, and so moving towards Tokyo 2020 you are a little older and I am sure a great deal wiser – especially on the toll it takes on your body… Will Ryan: Totally! This is such an experience-based sport and to see people like Malcolm Page who raced into his 40s, and Kevin Burnham and Colin Beashel going into their Games in their late 40s… I don’t know how do they do it because you have days when you feel like you are falling apart aged 30. SH: All this means you need good people around you. WR: This is an area where the Australian Sailing Team has made big strides. We now have a full-time physiotherapist, Ashley Merkur, who comes from a winter sports background so is new to sailing. This meant she brought a different approach, streamlining protocols and allowing other physios to step in and have a smooth handover at key events in Europe and the US when necessary. SH: A lot of this comes back to balancing funding – I would say
