Celebrating 80 years of racing the Tasman Sea


Attention all offshore racing fanatics seeking a new challenge: The Southern Cross Series is a new offshore racing pointscore organised by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA), celebrating the 80th Anniversary of the legendary Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race and the inaugural Trans-Tasman Yacht Race.


Comprised of three dynamic offshore ocean races, the series kicks off with the 172 nautical mile Cabbage Tree Island Race on Friday 5 December, followed by the highly anticipated 80th running of the 628 nautical mile Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race on Boxing Day, 26 December 2025.


The final race is the 1,270 nautical mile Trans-Tasman Yacht Race beginning on 27 February 2026. Sailing out of Sydney Harbour in a staggered start over three days, competitors will race across ‘The Ditch’, rounding New Zealand’s North Island before finishing down its picturesque east coast at Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron.


The Overall winner of the series will have the honour of being crowned the inaugural champion of the 2025/26 Southern Cross Series.
