CAMPAIGN Winter fuel payment

UNITE’S FIGHT FOR FUEL PAYMENT RETURN
There’s no doubt that many of our older buildingWORKER readers are missing their crucial former winter fuel payment by now. As you’ve read, Unite is campaigning to have the payment restored. In the meantime, the government is encouraging pensioners to apply for pension credit.
According to the government around 850,000 pensioners are entitled to pension credit but are not receiving it.
Could you be entitled to pension credit? Check with our handy notes.

PENSION CREDIT
1) What is it? It’s a top up for pensioners from the govt. – but you’ve got to apply.
2) Do I qualify? You do if your state pension and total weekly income is less than £227.10 (single person) or £346.60 (couple).
3) Is it worth it? If you qualify and don’t apply you’d be losing an average of £3,900 a year, as well as the winter fuel payment of up to £300, as on pension credit you will qualify.
4) What else do I need to know? Pension credit also entitles you to further help with housing costs, council tax, NHS dental treatment, TV Licence fees and more.
5) I’m a carer
If you’re disabled or a carer the pension credit amounts are higher in some cases – speak to a welfare rights adviser for help, you may be missing out on other payments.
6) How can I get for advice on this? You can call Age UK: 0800 055 6112 (England) – 0800 1244 222 (Scotland) 0300 303 4498 (Wales) – 0808 808 7575 (Northern Ireland) Or for more information, advice and a whole host of other usual stuff, you can visit

We want our Payment back!
But what about those hundreds of thousands that just narrowly miss out on qualifying for the Payment? Unite wants this mistake to be reversed and the payment restored. We believe this can be funded through the creation of a wealth tax.
