A lovely day, enjoyed by all
The first Sunday in September is of course the Burston festival – the day trade unionists and their families get to celebrate and remember the longest strike in history, writes Amanda Campbell.
Always a special day for rural and agricultural members, the September 1, 2024 rally heard from Steve O’Donnell, Unite regional secretary, NASUWT general secretary Dr Patrick Roach, the RMT Brass Band, John and Pauline Pearce, Louise Regan from the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign, Atilla the Stockbroker and John McDonnell MP, among others.
It was a day, beautiful and sunny – just like the crowd who enjoyed the entertainments, atmosphere and refreshments.
It is close to our members’ hearts as it has been said, “The Burston rebellion was a revolt born in the fields and fought by those that toiled in them.”
