LAW AND SOCIAL SCIENCES Who do you think you are?

Our memories are absolutely fundamental to our sense of self, and to our conception of who we are. Memory Illusion by Dr Julia Shaw, Senior Lecturer in Criminology, sets out to challenge our beliefs about how memory works – and by extension our assumptions about ourselves – and to explore some of the ways in which our memories can go awry. As Dr Shaw puts it, ‘The question isn’t, “Do we have false memories?”; it’s “How false are our memories?”.’ The e-book edition will be published on 16 June 2016. Cooling the capital THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT AND ARCHITECTURE

A joint project between Transport for London (TfL) and LSBU’s Centre for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, which celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2017 (see page 31), has been shortlisted in the ‘Collaboration of the Year’ category at the 2016 H&V News Awards. LSBU has been working with

TfL to explore cost-effective, environmentally friendly ways to keep underground Tube stations cool since 2001. The shortlisted project comprises the design and trial of

a new air handling unit for Tube platforms, using a fan chiller system to pump cold air into the station and improve the passenger experience. ‘This is a fantastic achievement,’

says Professor Charles Egbu, Dean of the School of the Built Environment and Architecture, ‘and a fine example of LSBU delivering research with real-world impact.’ TfL and LSBU will now present the project to a judging panel ahead of the announcement of the winners at an awards ceremony in April.
