If it’s summer, then it’s time for Pride, the annual celebration of diversity that adds a bit of colour to all our lives. Stuart Derrick, promotional products commentator, reports.

uphold the principles of equality and respect, and what better way to do that than with some cake? Eat My Logo has got a brand new range of rainbow-themed products to accompany celebrations.
Options include, a rainbow swirl frosted cupcake and a funky rainbow cake jar. All can be fully branded with any logo or message you choose.
All products can be sent either to individual addresses, or in bulk to a single address allowing everybody to celebrate together. It doesn’t just stop at cake. Brandelity has a whole range of Pride merchandise from lollipops and tote bags to face paints, umbrellas and condoms. Each of them features the Pride rainbow which is such a common sight at events and on merchandise.
Commonplace
Although it seems so commonplace that it must always have been there, the rainbow was actually designed as a flag by an artist Gilbert Baker in 1978. It originally had eight colours but is now typically shown with six. Each of the colours has a meaning, from red for life, to violet for spirit. Hot pink, for sex was removed early on, not due to prudishness, but because it was difficult to get hold of the fabric.
Speaking of colours, Oldeani has just added a beautiful new colour to its best-selling Oasis range of insulated bottles. The new Oasis in teal is a contemporary grey/ green which conjures up thoughts of the sea. For recent orders of the Oasis bottles, £5 has been donated to The Blue Marine Foundation to support its conservation work protecting local waterways and oceans around the world. The Oasis bottles are all available with extra accessories including a flip lid and straw, ideal for cold drinks and a carabiner for easy carrying.
Another drinks specialist, Just a Drop, is promoting its environmentally friendly and highly recyclable promotional Tetra water cartons as perfect for eco-conscious marketing campaigns.

This 500ml water carton has a white or black base and can be personalised with a printed label fixed to one or two sides in full colour with company branding. For high volume it can print direct on to the carton. There is also a 330ml size.
Just a Drop also offers a choice of four cap colours: black, white, dark blue and red. As well as the Tetra option, it can also supply canned water, and these too are highly brandable.
Another product making drinking more responsible is the ButterflyCup ReCycle, which claims to be the world’s first plastic-free paper cup for hot and cold drinks which can be recycled by disposing of it in the regular paper bin along with cardboard and newspaper.
ButterflyCup’s built-in lid and drinking spout eliminates the need for plastic lids and straws. It’s all in the clever folding of the cardboard which eliminates the need for a separate lid through a folding top. ButterflyCup ReCycle is made from pure and natural paperboard sourced from PEFC and FSC certified sustainable forests that is water-proofed with a thin plastic-free, water-based dispersion barrier. Existing paper cups require a heavy laminate plastic or PLA waterproof coating which makes them difficult to recycle, resulting in the vast majority ending up in landfill or as long-term litter. If improperly disposed of as litter, the ButterflyCup ReCycle biodegrades naturally like raw paper. It claims to be the only disposable cup/lid option that completes the circular economy loop as it avoids plastic production, is made from 100% renewable materials and is easy to recycle, repulp and reuse.

Also matching recycling and merch is Halfar. In these days when flexible working is all the rage, it’s good to know that the promotional bag specialist has our backs. It has a range of eye-catching designs and recently picked up a Promotional Gift Award 2021 for its ModernClassic organiser.
Everyday life
Since mobile working has become part of everyday life, we have to remember what not to forget. The ModernClassic makes it a doddle to keep all important office items together. It has a large main compartment; flat pouch; zipped pouch; two attachment loops for a drinks bottle; a business card pocket; three inside pouches; three outside pouches; adjustable straps, and a fastening flap for the car seat belt so that everything stays firmly in place even while driving. Furthermore, it is made of recycled felt and can be decorated with embroidery, a metal emblem, transfer print, or a digitally printed label.
It’s very imaginative, and so is my merchandise pick of the month. For the re-release of George Harrison’s classic All Things Must Pass album, which is almost universally regarded as the best Beatles’ solo album, record label Capitol came up with a promotional pack that includes miniature plastic reproductions of the four gnomes depicted on the album’s cover, along with a scale rendering of Harrison seated on a stool.
The original photo was taken by Barry Feinstein in 1970 at Friar Park, Harrison’s sprawling estate in Henley-on-Thames. As a keen gardener who spent years creating the estate’s gardens, George would surely think that these were fab gear.
