Scottish school pupils inspired to become health educators at major global conference
Pupils from across Glasgow, Lanarkshire and Ayrshire kicked off a student legacy programme from AMEE - The International Association for Health Professions Education, at its conference at the SEC at the end of August.
Spending the day at the conference, which ran from 26-30 August, the S5 and S6 pupils were in the company of various health workforce educators, who gave them first-hand knowledge of the many different career opportunities in the industry. They attended talks and discovered some of the new technologies used to educate health experts. In a bid to inspire the younger generation into health workforce education, AMEE - The International Association for Health Professions Education, created the legacy project to encourage school leavers to become teachers of much-needed health professions - doctors, nurses, dentists and veterinary surgeons.
The legacy project has the backing of the University of Glasgow who recruited the S5 and S6 pupils from; Bellahouston Academy, Greenwood Academy, Boclair Academy, Hyndland Secondary School, St Ninian’s High School, Hamilton Grammar School, Kilmarnock Academy and Prestwick Academy.
AMEE is committed to the longevity of the project and its impact on students with focus groups, regular email contacts, online discussion forums, discussions with Student Task Force Co-ordinators and virtual meetings to ensure the pupils remain engaged.
