CONTENTS Dear Reader,

Welcome to the latest issue of Education Today. In our first issue of the new school year, this month we take an in-depth look at health and wellbeing in schools. In our first feature we look at maths anxiety in the company of Nicola Woodford-Smith, a Maths Subject Partner for Pearson, while in our second, we speak to Andrew Hampton, author of “When Girls Fall Out” and “Working with Boys – Creating Cultures of Mutual Respect in Schools”, who talks about his work in schools, looking at the relational cultures of both girls and boys. In our third feature we speak to Stephen Willoughby, creator of The Student Voice, an interactive and child-friendly reporting tool that has been designed to help young people report an issue anonymously and confidentially, while in our fourth we hear from Stacey Charlesworth, design director at interior design, build and delivery business, ADT Workplace, who explores eight key considerations for education design and how each plays its part in supporting students’ wellbeing. Bearing in mind that wellbeing applies to staff as much as it does to pupils, in our fifth feature on the topic Lesley Moule, ex-headteacher and content creator for Access Education GCSEPod, looks at teacher burn out and the effect it has on the whole school environment, and in our sixth feature English teacher Vicki Barsby, from Eltham College in Southwest London, shares her work on a ‘Devolved Leadership Project’ that examined the school’s approach to Relationships Education. Our final feature looks at successful teaching practices in the company of John Snell, Headteacher, Senior Leader for a group of academy schools, and education advisor for The Open Minds Foundation (OMF).

A final note – if you haven’t entered your school or college in the Education Today Awards please consider doing so by going to https://educationtodayawards.co.uk/2023- entry-and-nomination-form/. It’s easy to enter and who knows, you could be chosen as a finalist! Remember, we love to hear from you, you can get in touch with us via Twitter @ EdTodayMag, as well as by phone or email.
