CONTENTS Dear Reader,

Welcome to the latest issue of Education Today, and welcome back to school! The new school year brings with it a host of challenges, not least of which is making sure that schools do not become a hotbed for coronavirus. Anecdotally at least, schools may be linked to a rapid rise in Covid cases in Scotland, although the measures announced there and in the other nations of the UK (twice-weekly testing, self-isolating for close contacts and PCR testing) should go some way towards mitigating the risk of a resurgence, and I know that many schools are putting their own systems and measures in place to prevent outbreaks. I’d love to hear from you if you have innovative solutions to the problems raised by coronavirus in schools – you may even be published! Moving on to the magazine this month, we

have a great feature focus for you, and it couldn’t be more timely, given that we are examining staff and student mental health and wellbeing in the company of James Earl, Executive Director of Sales at The Skills Network, and Gemma Williams, Student Wellbeing Manager at Leeds City College. In our other two features, we look at successful innovative teaching practice with Jackie Hardaker, science teacher and STEM coordinator at Oaklands Catholic School, and Kayleigh Greenacre, Assistant Head of School at Bedford Academy. There’s a lot of useful information to be gleaned from all the feature articles this month, and I do hope you enjoy them. Remember, we love to hear from you, you

can get in touch with us via Twitter @EdTodayMag, as well as by phone or email. Enjoy the issue!
