CONTENTS Dear Reader,

Welcome to the latest issue of Education Today. In the magazine this month we focus on the many aspects of SEND provision – in our first piece on the topic we hear from Sandy Toogood, Head of Clinical and Behavioural Services at Chester’s Abbey School, an independent day and residential special school for young people with autism, who discusses what education is for, and how to help SEND students get the best out of it; while in our second Suha Yassin, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Lead at Pearson, outlines some of the challenges facing schools today when it comes to SEND provision, and offers her thoughts on how these can be overcome. In our third piece on the topic we speak to Jo Hill, Head of School Improvement and CPD lead at North Star Academy Trust, and Emma Hampton, Director of Inclusion at Transform Trust, to gain a better understanding of the importance of CPD in SEND provision. We also have two features this month looking at CPD in the company of David Chapman, Head of School at Aston University Engineering Academy, and Adam Speight, acting assistant headteacher at a school in Wales. Elsewhere in the magazine we have all our usual contributors offering insight and opinion, and a lovely View from the classroom feature with Andrew Simpson, Headteacher at Arundel Church of England Primary School, who explains how a change in the school’s approach to assessment has led to multiple benefits for staff and pupils alike. Remember, we love to hear from you, you can get in touch with us via Twitter @EdTodayMag, as well as by phone or email. Enjoy the issue!
