SECONDARY NEWS Manor School receives Healthy Minds Award
Manor School in Northamptonshire has received a Healthy Minds Award in recognition of its work with the charity Bounce Forward. News that Manor School, which is part of Nene Education Trust, achieved the accolade comes after Amy Bradshaw, Trust Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead, was specially selected to be an ambassador for the pioneering charity Bounce Forward. The national charity has previously teamed up with the England captain’s charity, The Harry Kane Foundation, to support students nationwide with an overall goal to promote positive mental health across all generations.
Amy Bradshaw said: “It is fantastic Manor School has been awarded this special status in recognition of the work we have done within Manor to successfully embed the Healthy Minds programme. “Healthy Minds is the only evidence-based complete health and relationships curriculum for Years 7-11. It equips students with the life skills they need to thrive in and beyond school. We continue to see the real difference it is making to the hundreds of Manor students benefiting from the Healthy Minds programme and to our staff delivering the regular sessions, which are a crucial part of our curriculum.”

New £15m programme will test the power of mentoring for secondary school students
Youth Futures Foundation has announced Football Beyond Borders as its first delivery partner for the pioneering £15m Building Futures programme, a mentoring intervention for young people facing barriers who are at risk of missing out on further learning or employment.
The latest Office for National Statistics (ONS) data shows that around one in eight 16 to 24-year-olds in the UK are not in education, employment or training (NEET). Falling into unemployment at the start of working life can leave long-term scars, so testing preventative interventions, in the early teenage years, is vital.
Funded by Dormant Assets and awarded by the Government, Building Futures will develop and test a package of targeted support to build evidence about how mentoring can be used most effectively to empower students who are struggling.
During the initial phase of the programme, Football Beyond Borders will deliver personalised coaching, mentoring and wellbeing support to up to 500 young people aged 12 to 15 over a whole academic year. Seven schools from areas with high NEET rates across the West Midlands, North West and London will be the first to participate.
Students will have both one-to-one and group sessions, with personalised, sustained and intensive support, including the delivery of a social and emotional learning curriculum.
The aim is to increase engagement in education while improving wellbeing, to reduce young people’s likelihood of being NEET at age 18. The multi-year programme will reach at least 5,000 young people from now until 2029, with findings from the evaluation tracking the impact on young people’s education and employment outcomes in the years afterwards.
Football Beyond Borders was chosen as the first delivery partner because of their successful track record of building trusted relationships with young people in schools from areas of socio-economic disadvantage and their experience in using therapeutic mentoring interventions.
