n our View from the classroom feature this month, we’re delighted to hear from

What does your role involve? As part of the trust and the academy’s dedicated careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG), a trust CEIAG manager implements and oversees the offering so that it is aligned with Gatsby benchmarks. The overall strategy focusses on developing skills for employment in order to create well-rounded students who have business awareness, confidence, good communication and interpersonal skills, and are reliable and dependable individuals. It’s my job to build strong links within the
business community. Garston is close to Speke which is home to not only Liverpool John Lennon Airport but also to a number of well-known organisations and businesses such as Lloyds Banking Group and The Riverside Group. Bringing these opportunities to students is so
important. The social context of The Academy of St Nicholas means that aspirations aren’t always where they should be, and we are working tirelessly to ensure our current and future cohorts are ambitious go-getters.

events also took place with the Bank of America, Austin Smith Lord Architects, Crowne Plaza, as well as other professionals from engineering, healthcare, architecture, finance, construction, hospitality, medicine, health and life sciences sectors. The biggest hurdle for us during COVID was
the sudden changes implemented by the DfE, meaning that career initiatives couldn’t be planned too far in advance as these could be cancelled at short notice. It was difficult to second guess what changes from the DfE might come into place when cases increased during certain times of the year.
