Croydon school donates over 600 meals to Caterham Foodbank
Students from OneSchool Global’s (OSG) Kenley Campus in Croydon have led a successful campaign to secure donations in support of Caterham Foodbank.
Led by the Student Leadership Team at the school, the campaign saw the whole school community donate 256kg of items to the charity to help it provide emergency food and support to local people in crisis. The items raised included a wide range of long-life and non-perishable goods such as pasta or tinned tomatoes, as well as fruit, chocolate, cereals, and toiletries. OSG’s donation will help Caterham Foodbank further its mission to combat hunger and food insecurity in the local area, and will be used by the charity to prepare over 60 food parcels, amounting to 600 individual meals, with each parcel containing three days’ worth of food. This latest campaign builds on OSG’s long-running commitment to support charities, with Year 10 students encouraged to organise their own fundraising activities for their ‘Active Citizenship Project.’ As part of this, students from the Kenley campus have held a sponsored bike ride and bake sale which raised £7,000 for The Royal Marsden Hospital in London, and have also supported numerous other organisations, including Centrepoint, Epilepsy Action and the William Syndrome foundation.
OSG is attended by families of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, and has a network of 24 campuses across the UK which provide an innovative learning and teaching program to over 3,500 students, focused on teaching students how to learn.
Mrs Levett, Assistant Campus Principal at OSG Kenley, said: “It has been truly wonderful to once again see the generosity and collaboration of our students result in changing local people’s lives for the better. “We are proud to have nurtured such a caring school community with students, staff, and stakeholders who all show generosity and compassion for others. I want to congratulate the Student Leadership Team for successfully coordinating this initiative, and say well done to everyone involved for their donations and eagerness to help out.”
Annelie Huntley, Student at OSG Kenley, said: “As part of the Student Leadership Team at OSG Kenley, it was inspiring to see the whole school come together for this worthy cause, giving back to the local community, and knowing that our donations will make a difference to the lives of the people the Caterham Foodbank serves.”
Robin Gwynn, Project Manager at Caterham Foodbank, said: “We want to say a huge thank you from all of us at Caterham Foodbank to the whole community – including students, staff and parents – at One School Global Kenley Campus. Your donations this week came to an amazing 256 kg, which will provide about 600 meals.
“We fully appreciate your interest and support. Every item will make a difference to an individual or family in need of emergency food support across our area.”
Inclusive Books for Children launches national book-gifting scheme
Inclusive Books for Children (IBC), the new charity that exists to make inclusive books mainstream, has launched a new national book-gifting scheme called the IBC Book Box.
The UK-wide initiative, available to all state primary schools and community libraries, aims to increase access to inclusive books for the children who would benefit most from them. The free curated book box offers a wide selection of engaging, high-quality, inclusive books for young readers.
All applicants, whether successful or not, will gain access to a host of free resources, including:
• a series of short videos with expert guidance on sharing inclusive books with children
• an exclusive invitation to a live virtual author and illustrator event • downloadable instructions on making the most of the IBC website
Every month from September 2024, IBC will select one eligible school or community library to receive a book box filled with 100 inclusive books suitable for ages 2 to 12, all recommended by the IBC expert review panel. By the end of their first book-gifting year, IBC will have reached 12

Marcus Satha, co-founder of IBC said: “We’re so excited to roll out the IBC Book Box and get these stories directly into the hands of children. Many schools and libraries are under intense financial strain, and their existing book provision often shows a worrying lack of diverse and inclusive texts. Our book-gifting scheme is just one of the ways we hope we can help them and young readers find fun, engaging stories that accurately represent their world.”
