I

n our regular series of supplier Q&As, this month we catch up with Jo Taylor, Executive Director at education insurance broker Endsleigh, who tells us more about Endsleigh’s service offering and how Endsleigh is helping schools, colleges and universities to navigate the challenges the education sector faces.

Tell us about Endsleigh As a specialist education insurance broker, Endsleigh’s heritage lies in providing tailored insurance, risk management, and wellbeing solutions to the education community. With almost 60 years of specialist experience working with schools, universities and colleges, we understand the challenges the education sector is facing: the importance of keeping young people safe and well, the minefield of managing risks and obtaining cost-effective insurance covers, and the difficulties of finding and retaining staff. Our solutions are built around principles that ensure peace of mind for educational establishments, students, pupils, and employees. And, as part of Howden, the global insurance group, we have access to the UK’s leading insurers.

Could you tell us a bit more about the services you provide to the education community?

We provide insurances to protect your organisation against everyday risks as well as new and emerging threats. From property and liability covers to motor, engineering, contract works, Governors and Trustees’ liability, terrorism

What do you think are the key challenges that schools, colleges and universities are currently facing? It’s a challenging time for the education community. 78% of all education staff are suffering from stress. 40,000 teachers resigned last year with unfilled teaching vacancies at a record high. One in five young people aged 8 to 25 years have a probable mental health disorder and 400,000 young people have been waiting over two years for support.

Cyber-attacks within the education sector, which ranks fifth globally by industry in cybercrime incidents, are growing. Most prominent are malware and phishing attacks.

Cuts in school funding have made a huge impact on education services, including support for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities and capital spending on school buildings has declined by up to 50% in real terms since 2010.

The prospect of VAT being added to private school fees is bringing a wave of unrest and uncertainty for independent schools.

How can you support them with these challenges?

The education community is at the coal face of a mental health crisis with a lack of accessible support. Our wellbeing programmes provide mental health support for pupils, students, teachers and parents 24/7, 365 days a year. Our employee benefits package helps attract and retain staff by looking after all aspects of their wellbeing – financial, mental, emotional, and physical.

What sets Endsleigh apart from other companies that operate in the insurance arena?
