CONTENTS Dear Reader,

Welcome to the latest issue of Education Today and welcome back to school!

This month we take an in-depth look at the many

facets of alternative provision, with three features on the topic. In the first, Vicci Wells, Head of Sport for children’s charity the Youth Sport Trust, takes us through the charity’s research into physical education in alternative provision settings. In the second, Sal McKeown – a freelance journalist writing about disability, education and technology – goes behind the scenes at Pinderfields PRU to find out more about the importance the unit puts on play, while in the third feature Jayne Foster, CEO of Ethos Academy Trust (EAT) in West Yorkshire, is on hand to discuss the Trust’s vision of creating nurturing and inclusive learning communities. We round out our features this month with a look at school trips in the company of Kate Erskine, Head of Diversity Study Trips. Elsewhere we have all our regulars on hand

to offer insight and advice, and two View from the classroom features, the first from Nicola Knowles, Head of Personal Development at Loreto High School in Manchester, and the second from Sarah Sumner, Headteacher, and Louise Edmonds, Deputy Headteacher, at Westlea Primary School in Swindon. Finally, we have all the pictures and winners from our inaugural Education Today School and Supplier Awards, which took place last month in London. It was a fabulous night and we can’t wait to do it all again this December! Remember, we love to hear from you, you can get in touch with us via Twitter @EdTodayMag, as well as by phone or email.

Enjoy the issue!
