PERFORMING ARTS IN SCHOOL

Special performances of National Theatre'sWar Horse A

s part of the National Theatre’s six week run of War Horse at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre in Wembley Park, the NT have provided a programme of activity which engages with every state primary and secondary school in the borough of Brent, as well as families in the local community, in the lead up to

Brent’s tenure as Borough of Culture in 2020. This includes two specifically dedicated schools’ performances in the final week of the run, supported by the NT, the John Lyons Trust and Troubadour Trust, which will see more than 2500 young people invited to watch War Horse for a subsidised £5 ticket, with a special introduction by Michael Morpurgo. The performances will take place on 19th and 20th November and in the run up have been preceded by educational wrap around activity, such as puppetry workshops, a teachers CPD event and a page-to-stage event. It is a huge part of the National Theatre’s mission to provide young people with the opportunity to see live theatre, especially as government cuts for the arts increase and the arts are squeezed ever further out of the curriculum, and so this project has been a very important part of the War Horse season in Wembley. The production is now playing until 23 November.
