A flexible solution: The Middle Years Programme PARTNERED CONTENT
T
he impact of the coronavirus pandemic has called into question many aspects of education. One significant
topic argued? The validity of the UK National Curriculum, with a particular emphasis on GCSE examinations.
Offering a solution to secondary education, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) is a flexible skills-based framework of education, which focuses on teaching concepts rather than a prescribed syllabus, allowing teachers to take ownership of learning in the classroom.
The top five reasons for schools to consider offering the MYP are:
• It can be delivered in different formats (two, three, four and five years) in tandem with the UK’s National Curriculum
• It complements Ofsted’s education inspection framework by placing emphasis on breadth, giving students the option to study a second language
• It focuses on interdisciplinary learning, which allows students to make connections between subjects and real-world issues
• It includes an award-winning eAssessment at the end of the programme, which pushes students to go beyond the rote memorisation of content as just 25% of the assessment is based explicitly on knowledge
• It creates opportunities for students to build skills to become future socially conscious leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs through the MYP Innovator Grant
Find out more about the MYP and how it can benefit your learning community in a free Education Today webinar, taking place at 2pm on 25 March 2021.
