FEATURE: CLASSROOM TECHNOLOGY

children have struggled to grasp and just give an extra ounce of support. This could be done by simply adapting the task on the introductory page of your presentation, perhaps include a task that recaps work that the children focused on the day before. Even though all of this was daunting at first and

Introducing new topics As I mentioned, I often use my main virtual classroom as an addition to a presentation which I use to support my teaching. (It’s just more exciting for the children to look at, rather than staring at me for 30 minutes). As well as changing my main environment, I use my avatar to support the content of my lessons too. I’ve found it to be instrumental in introducing new topics and encouraging the engagement within these lessons.

Adding them into presentations not only provides consistency but exemplifies my explanations, shows my emotions and just makes learning through a screen that extra bit more fun.

Feedback Teaching live is also a great way to provide feedback to the whole class. I quite often use my virtual classroom to highlight common misconceptions, address areas of learning which

logging onto Zoom for the first time to teach the class gave me jitters, I am now an online teaching enthusiast! I truly believe that the virtual classroom offers a wonderful experience for those children at home and provides just a little extra support to their learning journey through these strange times. At the centre of all of my creativity and thought has been the children, I wanted to make learning fun and accessible for all. Wherever you may be in your teaching career, whether you are working from home, live teaching every day or in the classroom delivering sessions, I believe that there is a place for the virtual environment. I know that when we reach some sort of normality once again, I will use elements of my virtual classroom within my face-to-face space.

oday, modern classrooms rely on audio-visual equipment, an increasingly central piece for the

delivery of quality education. Constant optimal operations are a must. Leveraging the reliability that we all expect today to avoid the inconvenience of failures requires regular attention. Maintenance is a must. A classroom waiting for a repair of one of its major tools, maybe for days, will suffer greatly. We live in unprecedented times, with our schools

seeing long and unexpected periods of inactivity. Unused equipment is left on its own in conditions that are normally never met: sporadic use, dampness, low temperatures, and other environmental fluctuations. They are all enemies of reliability! Our experience is that schools will be facing the danger of unexpected and numerous failures once pupils are finally back. Halcyon Audio would like to extend its experience

acquired in the audio-visual maintenance field. We have a 25-year history covering many industries, with a special attention in education. We have thus developed bespoke services for schools, large and small, ensuring that they are kept running smoothly, while proposing competitive pricing that no IT or generalist company can offer. Our audio-visual maintenance and servicing plans will not only help

you keep your school in the game, regularly, transparently, painlessly and economically, they will also help you to sail through the upcoming restart storm without worrying about equipment. We will make sure that it’s been checked, tested and serviced and ready to hum along when the time comes.
