Teachers using Project Based Learning (PBL) report better
behaviour, higher engagement and, consequently, better learning outcomes. Now research by the National Foundation for Education Research (NFER), commissioned by the Edge Foundation and the Royal Academy of Engineering, lays out compelling evidence for the benefits of PBL. The Evaluation of University Technical Colleges, evaluated PBL and employer engagement in the top three UTCs which use PBL often in partnership with local employers. Students are often required to work to briefs and deadlines and employ critical thinking and problem solving skills. Not only does this approach help to meet the Gatsby benchmarks by giving students valuable encounters with employers and the workplace, but it appears to enhance their academic learning in subjects like English or history. Councils have been promised an additional £250m over the next two years to provide specialist support and tailored facilities specifically for children with complex needs, be it in mainstream or special schools.

eading training provider Qube Learning has announced the launch of their first Degree Apprenticeship in collaboration with Surrey Business School at the University of Surrey.
The relationship will see Qube Learning and Surrey Business School offer the CharteredManager Degree Apprenticeship, delivering world class leadership and management development, resulting in a double accredited BSc (Hons) degree and Chartered Manager status.
The course is available to new entrants into the workplace looking to learn while gaining valuable in situ experience, skilled professional managers wanting to expand their knowledge base, including leadership responsibility, and companies looking to secure the best possible training for staff on an accredited, innovative, well respected scheme, supported by the Government’s Apprenticeship Levy.
