Here at Focus-Trust, we continue the progression of our teachers by offering the opportunity for teachers to continue to work within the trust as an NQT as well as providing support beyond the NQT year for RQTs, subject leaders and even further for those aspiring school leaders of the future.


In order to ‘grow your own’ teachers, the policies and strategies put in place must be all encapsulating - from NQTs through to those who have been teaching for 20+ years. Everyone must feel valued and understand that professional development is a right for all staff.Within Focus- Trust a clear career and leadership pathway is in place for all staff.


Our bespoke induction system for NQTs allows for collaboration between the NQTs in all of our schools with set days arranged so that they can meet, establish effective networks and share best practice as well as receiving support from personal tutors – the expectation is that, by the end of the initial year, each NQT will be “Good’’ or better.

Establishing professional forums is one way of supporting the development of your staff and driving improvement within, as well as between, schools. Forums needn’t meet weekly, but putting a date in the dairy for once every term ensures that continued development is facilitated with the

agenda dictated by topical issues, research and methods of best practice.


A prime exemplar of the success of our


strategies is Emma Offord, Year 6 teacher at one of our schools, Birstall Primary Academy.
