FEATURE FOCUS: REMOTE LEARNING

Harnessing the full potential of technology in education A

s the COVID-19 epidemic closed schools and forced parents, teachers and pupils

to work from home, Education Today heard from three organisations with an investment in remote learning, to find out more about the work they do, and to highlight some of the changes that the education sector was having to face up to at that time of national crisis.

Andrew Howie, Director at e-learning WMB, developers of Open eLMS for Education, makes the point that the education landscape has changed. “In just a few short weeks, the ‘normal’ educational schedule has been ripped apart. Schools, colleges and universities are faced with a significantly reduced ability to deliver lessons in a meaningful way. Education leaders are being asked how they intend to keep learners on track and, crucially, how to keep them actively engaged when not ‘on site’. “As this pandemic takes further hold of our

everyday lives, we should start to ask why technology, that is increasingly used in our private lives, is not being utilised to its full potential in education?”

Providing targeted support to students “Open eLMS for Education is a teaching solution that allows you to offer engaging learning to your students in real time. Not just the ability to set coursework online but a way of delivering live sessions effectively, easily and on any device. With the system you can schedule, run and manage

many more. “If your school or college is looking for
