Wearing the School’s Brand

S

chools are recognising that a strong visual identity is a vital part of developing their vision

and achieving the recognition in a crowded and global market to attract potential pupils. Traditionally the main focus of this work has

been on signage and the prospectus. However, there is a growing recognition that the School's branding needs to work across all media. The single biggest and most visible of these is the uniform and particularly the sportswear that the pupils are seen wearing in schools, at away fixtures and on tour. The Abbey School in Reading has just

undertaken a full rebranding. The School worked with a design agency to develop a modern brand, with a new crest and a new look. They then selected Schoolblazer to provide the uniform and their sister brand, Squadkit to supply the sportswear. Our challenge was to develop this into a range of high performance garments which took the new identity out onto the playing fields of Reading and the World. • Squadkit has been developed with the world's leading sportswear fabric suppliers to bring new levels of breathability and performance to the school market.

• Uniquely as a brand, we will colour match fabrics to the exact pantone required, allowing total consistency across the school

2. Remember the key brand is the School's not the sportswear supplier’s.

3. Look after your existing customers (your current parents) first - ensure that the company you choose can deliver, not just for the first teams as a one-off, but for all of the pupils day to day. Too often new sportswear introductions are let

down by poor logistics, damaging the school's brand and reputation for competence. Squadkit is held in stock, and supported by the Schoolblazer website, which means that intelligent sizing, free name-taping and fee returns come as a natural part of the service.

• The brand is backed by the Schoolblazer operation, ensuring ease of delivery and customer service that are second to none. In a survey of another recently re-branded

school, King's Ely, parents were asked of their thoughts after purchasing the new kit: • Over 90% of parents were satisfied with the appearance and quality

• Over 95% of parents were satisfied with the service provided by the Schoolblazer website.

So what are the lessons? 1. Think about sportswear and uniform when thinking about the School's brand - they are the single biggest medium. Select a supplier with the flexibility to project your identity in fabric and colours.

• Whilst we are proud of the Squadkit brand position and heritage, we are not precious, we recognise that the true brand on display is that of the School. We ensure that the School’s logo is prominent on all garments, underscored, but not overshadowed by our Squadkit Ellipse.
