PROFILE WHO’S WHO This month: Evoplay Entertainment’s CEO

How did you first get involved with the gaming industry?

At the young age of five I was bored of having a limited choice of computer games, so I started writing games with the programming language Basic 1.0… The rest is history!

What attracted you to this sector?

I was always passionate about creating products, creating something new using all available techniques and instruments. Creating products in iGaming is very complex and it involves a significant number of components to be thought through, planned for and united together. This challenge still excites me on a daily basis.

What were you doing prior to the gaming industry? I was running a web development studio based in Kyiv (Ukraine) as well as developing a competitor for the Magento e-commerce platform on the side.

What are you responsible for in your current position? As CEO of the company I am responsible for planning the direction our business takes, as well as providing the vision for what we do on the product roadmap and making sure the most unbelievable and incredible innovation can and will be implemented in our slots – giving the highest standard to all products we produce.

What have been the biggest industry changes you’ve seen in your time?

For me there are two: first, the move from offline to online. Secondly, the emerging dominance of mobile over desktop. Both have changed the market as we know it, forever.

What are the biggest positive factors for your sector right now?

The evolution of slots is definitely one of them – and long overdue! The blurring of lines between igaming, gaming and other entertainment types are also real positives for me, and I’m excited to see the direction the sector is going in.

And what are the negatives ones – the obstacles to growth?

While not pervasive, there is an inherent slowness towards change and the flexibility of innovation. We try to react quickly to any innovative solution introduced to the world and look to integrate it into our products.

Looking at your entire career, what do you think was your smartest move?

Starting Evoplay Entertainment as a separate project with a unique vision and idea. To see how far we’ve come in two years is nothing short of fantastic.

And dumbest one? Just one? There’s way more!

What do you think the iGaming space will look like in ten years’ time?

The number of changes we will see over the next 10 years will be phenomenal. Starting from the merged lines between online gaming, gaming and the integration of the entertainment factor. I predict we’ll also see a move from in-browser to native apps and a change in the role of the browser itself to becoming just one of a variety of apps.

If you’d never embarked on this career, what other lines of work would you have liked to pursue? I would still take a path of entrepreneurship, as creating products has always been (and will be) a passion of mine!
