InSinkErator targets a new era of food waste management
BKU’s Matt Broughton speaks with InSinkErator Managing Director EMEA, Ashley Munden, about the company’s food waste management strategy, the changing recycling landscape and how education is helping retailers support consumers.
A
s 2026 reaches its halfway point, InSinkErator has been using the
growing conversation around food waste to help retailers and consumers better understand the role of modern food waste management. Ashley Munden explains: “This year has been built around a major focus on food waste education, with the COMPOST CADDY EASY strategy helping to explain how food waste disposers can complement the new recycling schemes being introduced. “Food waste disposal has become an
increasingly prominent national conversation,” Ashley explains. “Throughout the year our activity has been anchored by this message, explaining how InSinkErator food waste disposers are the perfect complementary product to the new food waste weekly recycling schemes.” The strategy has been supported by activity
across the industry, including KBB 2026, where the brand showcased its latest products and explored the future of food waste management with visitors. The event also provided the backdrop for a
successful press event featuring Emily English. The nutritionist, bestselling author and content creator shared her experience of using InSinkErator in her own kitchen, highlighting how
the product fits naturally into everyday food preparation and clean-up. More recently, the company launched a 30-
minute summer drop-in programme, giving kitchen showrooms the chance to speak directly with the team about the impact of the changing recycling landscape. Education remains central to InSinkErator’s
approach throughout 2026: “As the new recycling schemes begin to reshape how households and businesses manage their food waste, many kitchen showrooms are looking for clarity on what these changes mean in practice for their customers,” Ashley says. The programme is designed to help retailers
feel better equipped to explain the options available, ensuring consumers understand how food waste solutions can become part of a modern kitchen specification. KBB 2026 proved to be a major milestone,
with the company presenting its largest stand to date: “KBB provided the perfect platform to demonstrate how InSinkErator can help the industry respond confidently to change,” Ashley says. Alongside showcasing the product range, the
brand used the event to continue conversations around the future of food waste management and how retailers can guide customers through new expectations.
The Simpler Recycling Scheme The Simpler Recycling scheme is designed to standardise recycling across England by creating consistent categories for different waste streams, including food waste. “For many, it means an introduction to food
caddies for the very first time,” Ashley explains. “It has increased the conversation around effective food waste management.” For the kitchen industry, the changes create an
opportunity to help customers understand how different solutions work together – particularly as households adapt to new routines around collection and disposal. A key upcoming launch is the new LEDefense
sink flange, scheduled for Q1 2027. Previewed at KBB, the product uses Vyv LED technology and features an always-on LED light designed to tackle odour-causing bacteria and viruses. “We previewed the product at KBB this year
and the reception was great,” Ashley says. “We’re looking forward to bringing this to the UK market and providing another solution for our customers.” With continued investment in education,
retailer support and product development, InSinkErator is aiming to remain at the centre of the conversation as food waste management continues to evolve.
