Editor’s Letter INSPIRATIONAL INNOVATIONS

It will not have escaped those with their fi nger on the pulse that over the last few months there has been a fl urry of new machines to enter the wide-format print market. To name just a few, Canon has expanded its large-format graphics

production portfolio with the addition of the new 3.4m Colorado XL-series roll-to-roll and hybrid printer, while September saw the launch of Mimaki’s new TS200-1600 sublimation inkjet printer, which was described as an ideal solution for small shops, start-ups, and businesses looking to expand into customised goods and short-run textile production. Innovations like these keep the market fresh and interesting. They

allow print service providers to keep expanding their own product offerings and reach new markets. Some PSPs may be content in running their old work horses because they get the job done, but in the fast-paced world we live in sometimes investing in the latest kit pays dividends. Afterall, if you’re not offering a certain product or service, your competitor down the street may very well be doing so. If reading about the latest tech and goings on in the wide-format

world is what you’re after then this is the issue for you. Back in August I attended the IPIA’s Annual Conference, and in this issue I provide an overview of my time there and the main takeaway points you can learn from. I also outline the Printing Charity’s Five Ideas campaign and how this is helping to bring young people into the print industry. I also speak to fi ve manufacturers and suppliers on the topic of carbon neutrality and the importance this has on your business. And fi nally, speaking of new tech, Richard Budgen of Wilmot-Budgen describes what difference the Agfa Onset Panthera fl atbed digital inkjet press has made to their business after becoming the fi rst in the UK to secure one. I hope you enjoy reading this month’s issue!
