EXHIBITION PREVIEW

Energy efficient solutions on display at Southern Manufacturing & Electronics

Taking place from 6-8 February 2024, Southern Manufacturing & Electronics, one of the UK’s most prestigious and comprehensive industrial showcases, will be held at the Farnborough International

Exhibition & Conference Centre. The annual event has garnered unprecedented international attention this time, firmly establishing itself as a global force in the world of engineering and technology

S

outhern Manufacturing & Electronics was founded in 1997, and the 2023 show welcomed

more than 9,000 people through the doors, eager to see what 600 companies occupying 460 stands had to offer. The organisers are confident of similar success in 2024. The show is a must for anyone involved in

design, production or procurement. With exhibitors representing the mechanical engineering and electrical/electronic sectors in approximately equal measure, it is an unrivalled hub for hardware and software sales, component distribution, subcontractors and a huge range of other services. Many participants have been with the show since it started, a testament to its effectiveness as a business forum. A policy of open access that means larger firms

do not monopolise the space ensures a lively mix of big-name manufacturers and SMEs. In the context of challenges such as Brexit, supply chain disruption, soaring energy costs and rising taxes, the event’s focus aligns closely with industry’s needs. Themes like automation, Industry 4.0, reshoring of production, green energy, power-saving machinery and additive manufacturing will be much in evidence. Alongside manufacturers of machine tools,

tooling, fixturing systems and other mechanical engineering equipment, almost every element of electronics production and test will be present, together with suppliers of consumables, labelling systems, and storage and handling options.

LIGHTING, BATTERIES AND MORE... An important aspect of the exhibition is the sheer breadth of what is on offer, encompassing mechanical, electronic, electromechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic components, cutting-edge production machinery, inspection equipment,

software, consumables, workshop essentials, freighting services, and business and financial consultancy. The amalgamation of diverse vendors under one roof makes it an ideal platform for tackling multiple sourcing requirements efficiently. Companies offering energy-saving LED

lighting technology will include Coilcraft, which will present its high-performance, wire-wound inductors and transformers. Cembre will exhibit an extensive range of LED products designed for a variety of outdoor and emergency applications, including battery- operated, rechargeable flashlights, lamps and portable spotlights. RJS Electronics offers a range of switches with LED illumination and custom options, along with a variety of other electronic components. Schurter Electronics, meanwhile, provides

components that ensure safe, reliable supply of power, including circuit protection solutions, connectors and switches. Its expertise extends to EMC products and measurement services, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with industry standards. The firm also offers a range of advanced input solutions, including touch screens and touch panels, as well as capacitive sensor keypads and membrane keypads. Elite EMC offers tailored solutions for EMI

(electromagnetic interference) and RFI (radio frequency interference) filters. The company will explain its efforts to reduce the size and increase the power of filters, addressing the growing demand for compact yet effective solutions in the electronics industry. Flexibility, with no minimum order quantities, and commitment to customisation sets it apart in solving many EMC and RFI problems. Several stands will feature battery

technology, such as DMS Technologies, which specialises in designing and manufacturing various battery systems including for extreme temperatures and rugged environments. Jauch Quartz UK will feature battery power supplies, including its energy-dense lithium thionyl chloride programme. Easby Electronics will exhibit a range

of products including custom batteries, power supplies, electric vehicle (EV) charging cables and an extensive variety of components and accessories. Advanced Chemical Etching will be

promoting its expertise in electrification and hydrogen fuel cell systems. Its etching process is ideal for the manufacture of precision metal components used in the development of energy management systems for EV.

TECHNICAL SEMINARS Alongside the exhibition and demonstration areas, over the three days there will be a free technical seminar programme. It will give visitors and exhibitors alike valuable learning opportunities, with a particular focus on the technical, managerial and environmental issues facing manufacturers today. Presentations will include advice for small

manufacturers looking to improve their relationship with customers, opportunities for those seeking financial support, how to enhance a sales team’s performance, CE and UKCA marking compliance, sustainable practices in manufacturing, the importance of brand awareness and creative campaigns, and management skills coaching, including how to address the challenges of hybrid working.

FREE TO ENTER & FREE PARKING! Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2024 opens from 6-8 February and will co-locate again with AutoAero, a specialist theme within the show devoted to aerospace and automotive engineering. Car parking is free and the site is well served

by road and public transport links. A regular, complimentary bus service runs between Farnborough’s railway stations and the showground. Admission is also free of charge.
