SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING
One myth is that sustainable packaging
compromises product protection. Modern natural polymer coatings are, in fact, able to deliver the functionality required for bakery applications. Historically, plastic films and PFAS-based
coatings have been the industry standard, and this has led to a perception that removing plastic means compromising on functionality. “However, this perception no longer reflects reality,” Sam confirms. “Advances in natural polymer technology mean that materials made from plants can now deliver the grease and moisture resistance required for bakery applications, while remaining compatible with existing sealing processes.” Xampla has focused on developing
materials that meet the necessary functional requirements without relying on traditional plastics or forever chemicals. The result is packaging that maintains product quality, while being designed to break down naturally at end of life, rather than persisting in the environment for decades.
