Tailored automation of electronic design projects

or years, manual and time-draining workflows have been an Achilles’s heel for electronics engineers. Luckily, designers’ life can be made much easier today with the adoption of automation practices, freeing up time for other design and development tasks. But, the main question is: “What should we automate?”.


Novel approaches Despite the dazzling scope of innovation in the field of electronics, the industry has historically laboured under the weight of painstaking manual input processes. More recently, soſtware providers like Cady in Israel or Modelwise and Celus in Germany


have developed targeted technology to lessen this burden. To improve electrical schematics, Cady offers a soſtware-as-a-


service (SaaS) based inspection system using AI and machine- vision technologies. Te system checks component datasheets within design files, verifies whether the circuits conform to component manufacturer instructions, and reports sources of error like wrong pull-up resistors or swapped pins, for example. Aiding functional safety, Modelwise provides automated analyses that save time and remove hurdles in the final safety reports in compliance with IEC 61508 and ISO26262. Tese innovations have been transformative – not only of the design process, but also how teams operate.


Minimising circuit design time Munich-based startup, Celus, minimises circuit diagram creation times across the early stages of the development process. Its AI- driven Design Platform starts with graphic specifications of the desired function and, instead of painstakingly searching for viable components using datasheets, the parts are suggested to users by AI based on their requirements. By using this platform, engineers can create functional circuit diagrams, a suitable parts list and an initial layout prototype in native CAD format from their concepts, in minutes; see Figure 1. Central to Celus’s solution is its Cubo technology – a type of


digital datasheet, sorting all technical specifications, providing targeted information for users, and enabling designs to be reused within the company. In short, Cubo is a knowledge-enriched module with all the vital information about an electronic component for engineers to develop hardware, streamlining entire workflows.
