functionality. However, several device functionalities must remain at the forefront of design, namely reliability, security and efficiency. One recent development is the


Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) – a network of connected devices that allows remote monitoring, diagnosis


and treatment of patients, to improve their care beyond medical facilities and throughout their daily routines. Personal IoMT devices perform complex functions like sensing, processing and transmitting biometric data, whilst consuming minimal power and space. They must also be ergonomic, battery-powered, wearable and comfortable, which requires them to be lightweight, compact, robust and long-lasting – a tight balancing act for designers of these products. The IoMT also opens possibilities


for personalised and preventative medicine as well as telemedicine and homecare. By harnessing large data analytics and artificial intelligence, digitised healthcare can help identify patterns, trends and anomalies in a patient’s health, and offer tailored recommendations and feedback. Today’s technology supports remote consultations, reducing the need for physical contact and travel,
