MM Packaging launches upgraded GreenPeel food tray, responding to demands in fresh protein market
MM Packaging Deeside has enhanced its innovative GreenPeel fibre-based food tray with the introduction of a new double-rim structure, delivering improved strength, seal integrity and retail performance for fresh protein applications. The development builds on the success of GreenPeel, MM Packaging’s sustainable food packaging solution, which uses up to 90% less plastic than conventional plastic trays while maintaining the performance required by food manufacturers and retailers. The tray is designed for applications including meat, fish, chilled meals and fresh produce.

The new design replaces the previous single-rim construction with a continuous double-rim
structure around the tray. Developed in response to customer demand within the protein sector, the enhanced format provides additional robustness when used with skin-sealed products, helping maintain seal integrity throughout the supply chain. To deliver the improvement, MM Packaging modified both its machinery and tooling. The first
application is a new 20mm tray designed specifically for fresh protein products, with the format designed in collaboration with a major poultry producer in France. The enhanced tray is currently available for protein applications, with wider implementation across the GreenPeel range planned. Jonathan Craddock, UK Business Development Manager for GreenPeel at MM Packaging
Deeside, said: “The move to a double-rim structure is a significant step forward for GreenPeel. Customers want a stronger, more robust solution capable of maintaining a reliable skin seal throughout storage, distribution and retail display. “By introducing the double rim, we’ve strengthened the tray without compromising any of the sustainability or branding benefits that GreenPeel already provides. It offers greater durability, particularly in demanding retail environments, while continuing to help food manufacturers reduce their reliance on plastic.” GreenPeel’s cartonboard construction and removable liner continue to provide strong sustainability credentials, helping brands meet plastic-reduction targets while maintaining product protection, shelf appeal and recycling compatibility. Dave Whitworth, Managing Director at MM Packaging Deeside, added: “Innovation has always
been central to our approach, and this latest enhancement demonstrates our commitment to continually improving GreenPeel in response to market requirements. We’re helping food manufacturers make meaningful progress towards their sustainability objectives without sacrificing quality or functionality.”
B&B Attachments helps Ahmad Tea maximise container capacity with Push Pull solution
B&B Attachments has supplied Ahmad Tea with a Push Pull attachment, enabling the tea producer to handle goods efficiently on slip sheets, while improving container utilisation and reducing its reliance on traditional wooden pallets. The Push Pull attachment, manufactured by B&B Attachments, provides Ahmad Tea with a
practical solution for handling palletless loads, allowing products to be loaded and unloaded using lightweight slip sheets rather than conventional wooden pallets. For businesses transporting large volumes of goods internationally, the use of slip sheets can
offer significant logistical benefits. Unlike bulky wooden pallets, slip sheets take up considerably less space, allowing more product to be loaded into each shipping container. This can help maximise available container capacity. For Ahmad Tea, the move also supports its ongoing focus on improving the sustainability of its
supply chain. The company has been working to eliminate wooden pallets from its operations and has highlighted the environmental benefits of using slip sheets. The B&B Attachments Push Pull is specifically designed for the efficient handling of goods
transported on slip sheets rather than conventional pallets. This fork mounted attachment incorporates a hydraulically operated push-pull mechanism, allowing slip-sheeted loads to be securely gripped, pulled onto the attachment and then pushed off at their destination. This enables operators to load and unload goods quickly while maintaining precise control of the load. Kevin Yates, Senior Operations Planner at Ahmad Tea, comments: “The Push Pull attachment
gives us a much more efficient way of handling our products on slip sheets. By removing the need for traditional wooden pallets, we can make better use of the space available in our containers and get more product into each shipment. It also supports our wider sustainability objectives by helping us reduce our reliance on wooden pallets.” David Swait, Key Accounts Manager at B&B Attachments, comments: “It’s always rewarding
to see how the right attachment can make a real difference to a customer’s operation. In Ahmad Tea’s case, the Push Pull provides a flexible and efficient way of handling slip-sheeted loads, while helping them move away from traditional pallet handling. It’s a great example of how we work closely with customers to understand their specific requirements and provide a practical solution that delivers genuine operational benefits.” The Push Pull is one of a wide range of material handling solutions supplied by B&B
Attachments, which also includes forklift attachments from KAUP, bespoke attachments, hire solutions, parts, servicing and maintenance. Established in 1980, B&B Attachments is one of the UK’s leading suppliers of forklift truck attachments and material handling solutions.
