he team at Smart-Space loves a challenge and some of their projects demonstrate this really well. “When you think of an instant building you generally picture a large, boxy, standard shape which lends itself to efficient storage or workshop space” commented Smart-Space Sales Director Jason Lynock. “But we’ve done some great stuff where we’ve taken the instant building principle and made it work for the customer in a less orthodox way.”
100m tunnel at Cannock distribution centre Smart-Space was faced with the issue of connecting two warehouse buildings situated opposite each other. For a more efficient workflow, secure, protected goods in/out and, of course, to protect the staff from the great British weather, they proposed and built a covered tunnel that spanned the area between the two permanent distribution centre buildings.
Battery charging covered space Proving that not all Smart-Space buildings are huge, this neat and tidy structure was installed for a customer for their electric fork-lift charging. It’s well positioned for quick access and allows the forklifts to be stored in a dry environment whilst they’re recharging.
Warehouse tunnel at IAC Halewood
To improve the flow of goods between two buildings a tunnel was built at the main exit point. This covered a slope essential for the transfer vehicles but which had been proving unsafe in wet weather. Additional visibility was created all round by including clear panels along both sides whilst also providing light.
Smart-Space has worked on a huge number of installations over its 32+ years with many interesting applications including a kosher supermarket, a temporary arrivals area at Leeds Bradford Airport, a fire station, classrooms and even a church! Last year the company transformed an existing Smart-Space canopy/ loading bay by closing up the open side and creating a secure, dry warehouse space for storage as the customer’s workflow processes had changed. ideal as it doesn’t need foundations and can be installed in a matter of days. What’s more, the options to hire range from months to years so customers can adapt with their circumstances.
