merson: Emerson’s new Branson™ GMX-HP ultrasonic metal welder combines greater power and downforce, essential for larger welds required by electric vehicles, batteries and energy storage systems, with a modular equipment design and features that simplify installation and automation for machine builders and manufacturers. The new GMX-HP features increased weld power, furnished by a high-capacity 8-kilowatt, 20-kilohertz power supply. Welding power is transmitted through a direct-press actuator, equipped with dual linear bearing guides, precision distance sensors and a dynamic pressure trigger that deliver greater part-holding downforce with the high stability needed for repeatable weld quality.

enting a lift truck battery is a highly flexible, low-cost solution during exceptionally busy times like Easter or Christmas. “When it comes to increasing capacity during peak periods, the traditional approach has been to bring in rental trucks,” explains Tom Burgess, Managing Director of leading supplier Triathlon Battery Solutions. “But it’s far more cost effective to sweat your existing assets by hiring batteries and adding extra shifts.
“It also addresses the current issue of truck availability. The unusually long lead times for new equipment have resulted in greater demand for rental trucks, reducing the pool that would normally be available for busy periods such as Easter.
“By contrast, we currently hold significant stocks of new or nearly new batteries immediately available from locations throughout the UK, for periods ranging from one week to several months. “What’s more, if a short-term peak turns out to be long growth, we can change the short-term rental to lease-purchase or another financial arrangement that suits the needs – and budget – of the customer.” According to Tom Burgess, renting batteries can be especially attractive during periods of economic uncertainty as it allows users of material handling equipment to retain batteries purely for the period they actually need them rather than committing their working capital to purchase them.
“Doing so also allows the customer to treat batteries as tax-deductible revenue rather than assets on the company accounting record,” he says. “It can also be very advantageous to get assets like these off the balance sheet… but with the option to buy when the time is right. “For many businesses, rental is the perfect risk-free, tax-efficient option that allows the release of working capital.”

These characteristics make the GMX-HP welder an excellent choice for ultrasonic welding of larger-diameter conductors, terminations and busbars essential for increased power-carrying capacity, or for bonding the thicker stacks of anode/cathode films used in high power-density batteries or energy storage systems.
The GMX-HP welder is also designed for optimal flexibility and productivity, from automation design through long-run manufacturing. Manufacturing engineers, automation experts and machine builders will appreciate the flexibility of the welder’s modular design, which accommodates base mounting, rear-gantry or top-gantry mountings to simplify configuration, installation and operation of multimachine automated welding systems.
