COMMENT
Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto H
ello and welcome to the February issue of Factory & Handling Solutions. What a month it has been! We have officially parted ways with the European Union, although there are still the final details to be worked through and finalised. After all the years of Brexit being a hot topic on a day-to-day basis, from conferences down to family dinners, maybe now we will move forward as a country and be able to plan for the future.
In this issue we focus on Health & Safety, with features from ANT Telecom, Sentinel Systems, Brammer Buck & Hickman and much more. On page 8 we preview the Foodex show at the NEC 30th March - 1st April, and take a look at the different debates and competitions happening over the two days. METAV take a look at safety as a strategic process and the changes coming to the European Machinery Directive ahead of their Safety Day on the 10th March at the Dusseldorf Exhibition Centre. More on page 14.
Dr Paul Rivers, CEO of Guidance Automation explains why a considered deployment of an automation solution that takes into account the process needs, the people as well as the technology, ensures businesses can introduce automation that can augument the workers’ experience while also transforming productivity. More on page 24. AMH Material Handling increases e-commerce throughput for Selfridges & Co at DHL facility in order to meet with growth. Read the full story on page 28. On page 44 we preview the Industry 4.0 Summit & Expo taking place at the end of March in Manchester. Now in its fourth year, the summit boasts a stellar line-up of industry leaders from government, acadamia and industry, as well as thousands of visitors from across the manufacturing spectrum, keen to learn from differing industries.
This month Charlie and I went to a brilliant event at Ben Brown Fine Arts, visiting an exhibition by Rob & Nick Carter where a Kuka robot painted a portrait of the Queen! It’s amazing what technology is capable of. I hope you enjoy this issue, as ever if there is anything you feel we should be covering or that you would like to see, please send an email to
