Microchip Technology leaps up Ireland’s 2023 Best Employers League Table


Microchip Technology Inc. has been ranked number 15 in a list of the top 150 employers in Ireland for 2023. The Irish Independent selected the list from data that was collected from employees representing more than 1,000 companies based in Ireland. The research examined aspects that included everything from wages and work- life balance, to the potential for professional development, as well as the ongoing reputation of the employer.


Microchip said that he has leapt 88 places from


ranking number 103 in 2022 to number 15 in this year’s survey.


Michael Malinas, Microchip Technology’s vice president EMEA, said: “This significant advance is ample evidence that the $20 million commitment we made only two years to not only establish a


thriving business in Ireland, but to ensuring it was an attractive place to work will continue to pay dividends, not only for Microchip Technology and our customers, but to our valued employees.” The team of Microchip employees working across operations in Dublin, Cork and Ennis, has grown rapidly, from less than 200 in 2021 to more than 350 today.


Mr Malinas said the $20m Development Centre launched by Microchip Technology in Cork in 2021 has proven to be the expected catalyst to the company’s success in the region. “By partnering closely with some of Ireland’s leading universities, the Development Centre has become a thriving core of semi-conductor knowledge, skill and state-of-the-art development that rivals any in the world,” Mr Malinas said. “The engineering expertise now flourishing at

Four manufacturing leaders inducted into Hall of Fame


Four industry veterans have been named as the second tranche of inductees into the Northern Ireland Manufacturing Hall of Fame, which recognises stalwarts who have made an exceptional contribution to manufacturing and engineering. The honour was bestowed on the quartet at a leadership summit in


Derry’s Guildhall, held as the culmination of NI Manufacturing Month The inductees are John Bosco O’Hagan, founder and group chairman of Specialist Group; Walter Watson, founder of Walter Watson Ltd; Mark Hutchinson, chief executive of Hutchinson Engineering; and George Fleming, chairman and founder of Fleming Agri Products. As part of the Hall of Fame selection criteria, inductees need to have


started or grown a Northern Irish business significantly and sustainably over the last two decades at least; enhanced the region’s manufacturing reputation through sectoral or product development; are highly respected by peers, employees and communities in which their businesses operate; or contributes to community initiatives or charitable or sporting causes.
