UNIVERSAL ROBOTS LAUNCHES UR+ APPLICATION KITS IN IRELAND
"Humans teach the cobot, which is like
a robotic arm, by programming it or physically moving it around in the way they want it to perform. The cobot remembers and repeats the steps accurately and consistently, never deviating from the function or task they are programmed to do. Take as an example, affixing bolts, cobots are great from a quality assurance point of view as they’ll affix with the same pressure ensuring consistency in quality every time. We’ve programmed cobots to slice pizza, pack boxes, move heavy items and more so we really are talking about a wide range of business possibilities” “For Universal Robots in Ireland, it’s
Application kits will remove barriers to automation for Irish companies
T
wenty software and hardware kits for the most-popular cobot applications
such as finishing, inspection, assembly, machine tending, material removal, dispensing, and material handling, are now available on the UR+ platform, the automation industry’s largest and most comprehensive ecosystem of products, certified to integrate seamlessly with Universal Robots’ cobots. By reducing recurring engineering
decisions for common applications, the ’Plug and Produce’ kits decrease project risk and complexity and bring about fast implementation. An example is Robotiq’s Surface Finishing Kit now compatible with over 20 pneumatic and electrical orbital tools from leading, worldwide brands. The kit allows manufacturers with polishing or sanding processes to utilize the kit’s built-in path generator to ensure consistent applied force in each cycle, increasing quality and productivity while reducing programming time from hours to minutes. Jim Lawton, VP of product and
applications management at Universal Robots, said: “As the world’s leader in collaborative robots, Universal Robots is pleased to extend our award-winning UR+ ecosystem in Ireland and continue to support various industries here. Customers can now adopt a kit with
most of the needed components for their desired application bringing about faster deployment and faster payback. As the UR+ ecosystem has evolved, Universal Robots has listened to our customers’ feedback as to what would make implementation of cobots even easier. With more than 200 certified products and 400+ developers in the program, the UR+ platform has expanded at a rapid pace, providing the most comprehensive component platform for cobots in the industry. The addition of application kits will further strengthen our position as the go-to place for fast and straight- forward deployment.” Samantha Cummins-Byrne, Irish lead
with Universal Robots said: “With approximately 250 cobots successfully integrated into Irish workplaces already, and the extension of our UUR+ ecosystem in Ireland, we are expecting 2020 to be our most-successful year to date with the amount of robots in action across the country rising to at least 400. Cobots support companies to streamline efficiency and reach new production goals in a very cost-effective way. Unlike traditional industrial robots that take can weeks to be operational, a cobot can be part of the workforce in just a couple of hours. Often, it’s a case of plug-in and operate via a tablet or by adjusting the cobot's arm.
all about education and helping people to understand that cobots are here to empower. We’ll be hosting various demo days across the country throughout the year and inviting any interested parties to come and interact with cobots first-hand and learn from our experts on how they are transforming industry here in Ireland.” The expanded UR+ ecosystem now
features two different categories; components and application kits. The kits are developed by industry-leading UR+ partners with in-depth application knowledge that eliminates the duplication of engineering efforts when deploying widely-used applications. The new application kit category
features a total of 20 kits with many more expected. The SPATZ - STÖGER Pick&Place Screwdriving Kit, consists of several different UR+ certified components controlled through a single URCap. The SPATZ - STÖGER kit i.e. integrates seven UR+ components providing automatic tool change and feed unit of fasteners through a Pick&Place system. Launching in Europe is the ROBiPAK
welding kit, that provides a perfect symbiosis of ABICOR BINZEL’s welding equipment and UR cobot technology for MIG/MAG welding. The "Ready-To- Weld" URCap controls all hardware including the air- or liquid-cooled welding torch system designed for quick installation on UR cobots. All application kits now available are
