Dräger’s new X-plore 8000 HeaD Tops are ToUgHer THan ever

help health and safety professionals move towards eradicating respiratory disease, as the international leader in the field of medical and safety technology, Dräger considers how their new head tops for the powered air purifying respirator (PAPR), X- plore 8000, can help workforces stay safe.

Clean air is an essential requirement but is not always possible.

Clean and toxin free air is an essential requirement for employees. However, in many industries this is not always possible. When other protective measures on the hierarchy of controls are not possible or do not eliminate the hazard, then measures, such as respiratory protective equipment (RPE), are required in the provision of clean and toxic free air to help ensure the protection of employees.

tougher than ever.

Performance of the head top is critical and can vary depending on the task. For example, in the construction industry, the RPE system should not only protect against silica dust and asbestos but may also be required to protect the head from potential impact. In the pharmaceutical industry, in addition to protecting against hazardous substances, strong chemical protection is a key requirement to prevent the risk of penetration, as well as ensuring durability of the head top. Protection is at the forefront when using

the X-plore 8000 head tops. Dräger recognise that the design of the head top needs to support an array of different tasks. As a result, the new range is available in two different variants - as a helmet with flip-up visor and also as a combination of head protection and removable hood. The user can now choose from four different face seals, and two materials (Zytec or Tychem) resulting in a truly tailored and modular head top. The helmet protects the head, face and eyes from mechanical hazards and, depending on the model, will protect from the effects of specific chemicals.

igures published by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) show that approximately 12,000 lung disease deaths are believed to be linked to past exposures at work. In Dräger’s mission to

Comfort and individual fit.

Comfort and individual fit are an important component when evaluating any form of RPE. Research suggests that comfort can be a barrier to wearing RPE. One aspect is ensuring the user remains cool during even the most strenuous of tasks. With the new head tops, comfort and individual fit is incorporated into the design. For example, the direction of air flow can be adjusted in the forehead area to improve the wearing experience and soft padding is included to ensure maximum user comfort. In addition, users can adjust the width and height of the headpiece for an individual fit.

enhanCed visibility, even for the dirtiest of tasks.

Good visibility is imperative for any task. For example, automotive industry workers may face dangerous vapours due to spray painting. Whilst protection against such substances is critical, good visibility and comfort are also a high priority to ensure work can be completed to the highest standards whilst maintaining user comfort and safety. Therefore, in addition to the removable hood, which ensures easy decontamination, the panoramic visor on both variants is protected by a special coating to prevent fogging and scratches. On the head-protection-hood variant, the hood is attached to the shell to ensure the hood moves effortlessly with the head.
