N
orthern Manufacturing & Electronics returns to EventCity, Manchester from 2 to
3 October 2019. The show is the partner event to the enormously successful Southern Manufacturing Show, and offers a correspondingly inclusive approach to a broad range of industries, including component vendors and subcontractors to advanced production systems. Crucially, in these challenging times for industry, the show aspires to being an effective forum for the exchange of ideas and experience; an event that is readily accessible, applicable and valuable to anyone involved in industrial enterprise, from the humblest workshop to the largest manufacturer. No matter how large an enterprise, there is a
widely-felt need to learn the right way to leverage modern technology to stay competitive in a fast- changing manufacturing environment. The potential of “Industry 4.0” remains poorly understood by many, with few firms feeling bold enough to commit to hard cash investment at this stage, despite the awareness that it will almost certainly be crucial to do so in the long term. Exhibitions are an effective way to bridge this
understanding gap. Along with its focus on the day-to-day necessities of manufacturing industry in the region, Northern Manufacturing is well positioned to provide the opportunity for knowledge sharing. Along with the most popular machinery, components, consumables and production hardware, for the first time this year, the exhibition is partnering with several national and regional business organisations, offering visitors access to an abundance of technical and business expertise. Reflecting its relevancy to the North West, the
exhibition is supported by the two primary regional aerospace and automotive business organisations, the North West Aerospace Alliance (NWAA) and the Northern Automotive Alliance (NAA). The aerospace business in the North West makes up about a quarter of the UK’s £32bn aerospace business, makes use of around 25,000 highly trained people and supports a plentiful eco-system of suppliers across the country. The North West automotive cluster employs around 16,200 people and directly produces around £9bn of sales revenue. Along with industry-specific event partners, the
exhibition is backed by many other well-known national organisations, which include Composites UK, the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT), the Gear & Toolmakers Association (GTMA), the British Gear Association (BGA) and the Confederation of British Metalforming (CBM). Each of them delivers a wealth of technical experience and knowledge to the event, delivering both a readily available business resource and knowledge-sharing opportunities via the show’s impressive free technical seminar programme.
20 AUTUMN 2019 | INDUSTRIAL COMPLIANCE
The 2019 programme kicks off with a session by
award-winning author and Lean expert Gary Griffiths, looking at how ‘Excellent’ organisations deliver results for their business by both embedding and sustaining Lean & Continuous Improvement. Made Smarter and the Manufacturing Growth Fund will provide specific advice on growing your business, showing how other companies have done it and help you tap into advice, funding and support that is available across the North West. Other sessions cover a wide variety of topics, from CE marking to TPM and the Shingo model. Business topics addressed include practical problem solving and merger and acquisition strategies to maximise value. Attendance at all sessions is completely free to visitors but must be pre-booked online at
