FEATURE ELECTRICAL SAFETY

A FLEXIBLE SOLUTION TO SAFE ISOLATION M

artindale Electric has released its latest CABLOK series, which provides

installers and maintenance teams with a simple and reliable solution for locking off multiple breakers, switches and valves, to prevent the re-energising of circuits and systems during maintenance, as part of a safe isolation procedure. The latest range of adjustable cable lockouts

feature a flexible, PVC-insulated steel cable which is easy to thread and can be simply adjusted to suit the required length before locking off with a simple squeeze action. Incorporating a built-in safety hasp, with space for up to six padlocks to be securely fixed, it allows multiple operatives to safely work on the same system. For additional safety, the system cannot be re-energised until all padlocks have been released. Suitable for both the electrical and industrial

market, the new ergonomically designed CABLOK series is available with 1m, 3m and 5m cable lengths and is compatible with the Martindale Electric PAD10 and PAD20R padlocks. The new range of adjustable cable lockouts

from Martindale Electric make it easy to ensure all types of circuits can be de-energised and properly isolated prior to maintenance of plant and equipment, preventing potentially fatal accidents and enabling compliance with HSG85, Electricity at Work Regulations. Martindale Electric is a specialist in providing

equipment to ensure safe working on electrical circuits and has designed a wide range of lock out kits and safety equipment, such as voltage indicators, proving units and safe isolation locks to ensure maximum safety in the workplace.

Non-contact voltage and magnetic field detection

Now available from Martindale Electric is the latest NC Series of Non-Contact Testers, which enable electricians and maintenance teams to quickly and safely identify live wiring and detect magnetic fields in a range of applications. All models feature a bright LED torch at the point of measurement, together with both audible and visual indication making them ideal for all types of work area including locations that are poorly lit and have limited line of sight. The extended clear probe tip makes it easier to identify the source of the live voltage or magnetic field through improved access and brighter indication. Both NC2 Non-contact Voltage Detector and NC4 Dual Sensitivity Non-

contact Voltage Detector make it simple to detect the presence of AC voltages in cabling, sockets and connectors. The sensitivity of the NC2 has been optimised for 230V single and three phase systems making it ideal for identifying and tracing live mains cables in trunking and connectors. The NC4 features two sensitivity ranges which can be set according to the application and is suitable for both mains and lower voltage systems down to 12V. The non-contact magnetic field detection capabilities of the NC1 Non-

contact Solenoid/Magnetic Field Tester and NC3 Non-contact Voltage and Magnetic Field Tester can be used for checking the operation of relays and solenoid valves in a wide range of machinery. This feature saves valuable time by allowing testing without having to dismantle equipment or control panels. For the dual function NC3 a bright red LED indicates voltage and a yellow LED magnetic fields. Suitable applications for both the NC1 and NC3 include trouble shooting and servicing of control equipment in process industries, energy, transportation and pneumatic and hydraulic systems. The pen-shaped design with clip is ideal for carrying in a pocket or tool

belt so that the tester is always to hand for electricians or maintenance staff working at height or in difficult to access locations. Available online and through electrical wholesalers all models in the new

NC series are supplied with alkaline batteries and a comprehensive two-year guarantee. Non-contact voltage testers are a handy tool for detecting live voltages and troubleshooting faulty wiring and equipment but cannot be used for proving dead during safe isolation procedures. A two pole voltage indicator such as the Martindale VI13800 should be used for proving dead.

Digital multimeter with built-in thermal imaging

RS Components (RS) has introduced the first digital multimeter (DMM) in its RS PRO product range to feature a built-in thermal imager. The RS-9889 thermal imaging multimeter allows engineers to identify thermal overload issues in electrical equipment from a safe distance, without the need for any physical contact. The RS-9889 thermal imaging DMM is an

all-in-one handheld device designed, like other products in the RS PRO range, to combine durability and reliability with excellent value for money. It is suitable for a wide variety of applications, ranging from smart manufacturing in the industrial automation sector, to general electrical tasks such as testing sockets and lighting during business safety audits and home renovations. The RS-9889 combines features of a digital multimeter — measuring

circuit parameters such as voltages, currents and resistances — with an infrared thermal imaging camera to allow hot and cool points in electrical components to be identified on a viewable thermogram. The thermal imager of the RS-9889 offers max, min and centre

crosshair targeting to help the user identify and measure required temperature ranges easily. A Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connection allows thermal images to be shared quickly to other devices via the Thermview+ app. The thermal imager has a 2.8-inch colour TFT LCD screen with an infrared resolution of 80 x 80 pixels, a 21° x 21° field of view, thermal sensitivity (NETD or noise equivalent temperature difference) to less than 0.1°C/100mK, a fast 50 Hz thermal image frame rate, an object temperature range from 20° to 260°C, a spectral range of 8–14 μm, and accuracy to within ±2°C, or ± two per cent of the reading. The versatile RS-9889 include also functions as a diode, resistance and

continuity tester, equipped with a buzzer, and can measure temperatures all the way up to 1,000°C using a K-type thermocouple probe. AC and AC+DC voltage and current are true RMS. A lightweight portable device allowing users to work on the go, the RS-

9889 measures just 80 x 58 x 195mm and weighs 540g. It is shipping now from RS in the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions.
