It’s time to get your entries in!

This month I’m very pleased to announce that entries for the 2022 DIY Week Awards are now open. We’ve tweaked some of the categories and streamlined the programme slightly in order to make it easier for everyone to enter and ensure there are more opportunities for companies and products to be represented and considered for an award. In such a busy and diverse industry sector, it’s sometimes difficult to give credit to those that deserve it most, but the DIY Week Awards have always been known for their independence and fairness, something that’s integral to the event and we aim to maintain in order to give everyone a chance to be recognised for their innovation and hard work. See page 19 for more information and visit www.diyweekawards.co.uk for full details.

As I write this, we are in the middle of the year’s busiest period for retail and we have to be optimistic that this year’s Christmas is better than the last. While sales have generally held up well for the DIY sector as whole throughout the coronavirus pandemic, everyone wants to end the year on a high and so far the signs are pretty good. However, due to the new Omicron Covid-19 variant that has just reached the UK, the government are reintroducing some restrictions, such as the mandatory wearing of face coverings in the retail environment, and hopefully that’s all we’ll need in order to make it through the winter without cases rising too high.

As far as I can tell, the feeling amongst the general public is that they’ve had enough of restrictions and they just want to carry on as normal wherever possible, while taking reasonable care and precautions to protect themselves and others, and that nothing is going to spoil Christmas for them again this year. Let’s hope that’s true and we can all enjoy a healthy and prosperous festive period.
