CJ WILDLIFE SCOOPS BEST PRODUCT AT GIMA AWARDS

Expert wildlife brand, CJ Wildlife, has taken home the award for Best Product in the Pet Care, Aquatics and Wild Bird Care category at this year’s prestigious GIMA awards.

the GIMA Awards judges as: “A great way to get kids outside and engaged with nature.”

C The collection, which launched

in March this year and was the first of its kind in the UK, was created to provide a fun, exciting way to encourage children to care for wildlife from an early age – starting in their back garden!

Phil Kent, Head of UK Sales at

CJ Wildlife, commented on the win: “We’re over the moon that the National Trust Kids Wildlife range has been recognised as Best Product in its category. The collection offers consumers a unique selection of

J Wildlife’s new Kids Wildlife Range, made in collaboration with the National Trust, has been hailed by

affordable, fun and practical products to engage children with the natural world around them – and they have already proven to be hugely popular since launching earlier this year. We are looking forward to speaking with retailers interested in stocking the range in the coming months, and would urge businesses to get in touch with me to discuss opportunities.” Among the products introduced

were three easy-flip, fully recyclable bird feeders, bird feed packaged in colour-coordinated, recyclable tubs, and FSC-certified, build-your-own wildlife wooden box kits, all featuring the iconic National Trust oakleaf logo. To further encourage little ones to get outdoors, the range also offers families a digital hub of free activity sheets to keep little ones engaged with their outdoor space, while

This month, gardening expert Graham Paskett offers advice for protecting plants in winter by bubble wrapping your greenhouse or cold-frame with the help of Linda Lane from Griffin Glasshouses.

Linda Lane is managing director of Hampshire based Griffin Glasshouses, a business started more than 50 years ago by her late father, and she recommends using a combination of bubble- wrap to double glaze the glass and horticultural fleece to protect tender plants in extremely cold

weather. “A roll of bubble wrap won’t

break the bank and there are some ingenious ways to attach this to the metal or wooden greenhouse framework and provide a low-cost

ot everyone has the luxury of a heated greenhouse and the boss of Britain’s leading family- owned greenhouse

double-glazing system,” she says. “Alliplugs are very good for attaching the plastic to some aluminium frames and are available online. If that doesn’t work, good old bulldog clips will ensure an effective connection. I don’t recommend using drawing pins on wooden frames and, again, clips will do the trick,”says Linda.

Fresh air to beat frost

Although she is talking about keeping out the cold, Linda warns about ensuring an adequate supply of fresh air, providing there is no frost.

“Even in the depth of winter a greenhouse or cold-frame will

heat up rapidly in the sun, so open doors and windows in the daytime – but remember to close them before the sun sets. Fresh air is vital for healthy plants.” “In really cold weather conditions more tender plants will require additional protection and horticultural fleece is ideal. It keeps the plants warm and also allows the light to penetrate, keeping them healthy and cosy,” adds Linda.

educating them about Britain’s wildlife. Claire Smith, Chief

Officer of Partnerships, Products, and Business Development at CJ Wildlife added: “We are so incredibly proud of the National Trust Kids Wildlife Range. The passion and drive

behind the collection was simple - we wanted to encourage more children to get outside and to engage with the wildlife around them. We believe that getting little ones involved with nature from an early age will nurture a lifelong love as well as educate and inform the next generation on the importance of caring for wildlife.” Becky Stanford, Head of Brand Licensing at the National Trust

said: “One of the things we’re most passionate about at the National Trust is ensuring everybody has access to nature, and the National Trust Kids Wildlife Range furthered this mission. This prestigious award recognises the

importance and value of teaching our children about wildlife and why we should care for it, and seeing the

ceremony is an incredible testimony to how beneficial and successful it has been.”
