An afternoon to remember…

A last minute venue change for this year’s DIY Week Awards turned out to be quite a positive move for the event, as the great and the good from the DIY industry converged on the Royal Horseguards Hotel in London for an afternoon of networking and celebration. This historic building in Whitehall was once used as a headquarters by MI5 and MI6, it also housed secret tunnels used by Winston Churchill, and, very fittingly, has been redecorated many times. After a networking reception, lunch was served in the library, an impressive marble pillared

room lined with books and featuring a galleried landing. The juxtaposition of Victorian grandeur of this five star hotel and the celebration of the latest and greatest DIY products and solutions

wasn’t lost on those attending and certainly provided a talking point. The atmosphere was electric as the awards started to be announced and handed out, with all the attending finalists, special guests and VIPs vying to become the winners of a prestigious DIY Week Award in their category. This event is always very good-natured and fair, with everyone attending out to enjoy it and provide a party atmosphere as the finalists, highly commended and victors’ names are read out. And this year was no different with plenty of cheering and congratulations for all the well-deserved winners.

I just want to thank everyone involved who helped to make this year’s Awards such a success, including the DIY Week team, the expert judges and of course our sponsors, we couldn’t put the event on without your input. You can read the results in the news on p4 of this issue and we’ll have full details in our special awards supplement next month.
