And the overall winner is... DIY!
Earlier this month I had the pleasure of introducing our first ever online live-streamed DIY Week Awards event. Of course we would much rather have been able to host guests at a live awards lunch, but just like many other event organisers we’ve had to pivot and find a new way of bringing the industry together due to the Covid pandemic. The virtual awards ceremony was watched online by a global audience of DIY professionals, which meant this year’s event extended its reach considerably and opened up this celebration of British DIY market creativity, ingenuity and success, during what has been an extremely challenging year, to many more people than ever before.
The positive reaction from the trade and interaction the event enjoyed via social media was way beyond anything we could ever have imagined. It was great to see all the shortlisted finalists get on board and help promote the event and really make the best of it, despite not being able to meet up in person and celebrate in the traditional way. We received some great entries this year, which made judging the winners harder than ever, so I’d like to say well done to all those who made it onto the final shortlists and congratulations to all our very worthy winners. I’d also like to thank all those who entered the awards this year, the industry experts who joined our judging panels, our extremely supportive sponsors, DIY Week’s Publication Manager, Sallie Payne, and all those involved in the organisation and production of this year’s event who all helped to make it such a success. You can read the full list of winners in this issue starting on page 12 and we’ll be publishing a special event supplement with more details about each with the September issue.
