SECURING SALES THROUGH CONSUMER AWARENESS


Experiencing considerable growth in recent years, the global security market is projected to surpass $100 billion by 2020 as consumers continue to raise concerns, writes Kasp Security brand manager Tina Skinner.

ndependent research into homeowners’ attitudes and behaviour toward security has revealed that consumers are committing many


faux pas when it comes to protecting their home, suggesting a lack of awareness of security products. According to the Office of National Statistics, domestic burglary is 1.14 times more likely in winter than summer, with the Metropolitan Police reporting a typical rise of 25% in residential burglary offences during autumn/winter. This presents retailers with an opportunity to capitalise on market conditions while increasing incremental sales. Product awareness is imperative to both educate the consumer and drive sales. The more retailers know about a


line of products, the more effective they will be in selling it.


When it comes to padlocks for example, retailers should be aware of basic product information such as features and benefits, recommended applications and differences in locking mechanisms. While all padlocks may appear to be fairly similar, there are vast differences in their capabilities and applications and these should be explained to the customer so that they can make an informed purchase.
