P10 / RANGE REVIEW: CHRISTMAS A look at what opportunities some outdoor categories
might present over Christmas Editor, Fiona Garcia:
fgarcia@datateam.co.uk
Take a look at products you already stock and re- imagine them with a festive twist
Founded in 1874
It’s getting colder, Christmasworld has, this week, issued its trends ahead of the exhibition in February, and tins of Quality Street and Roses chocolates are on sale in the supermarkets…yes it’s that time again, Christmas is just around the corner! Whilst I am yet to hear my first festive tune on the radio, I am finding myself inundated
with Christmas messages and promotions in certain stores and, even more so, in my email inbox. Many retailers are already discounting with gusto ahead of Black Friday, Cyber Monday, the Boxing Day sale – and any other day of deals I might have missed inbetween. Whether it’s Brexit, big brands on the high street going bust, or overspending during the summer months that is apparently making British consumers a tad more cautious than usual – from experience, that does all seem to go out the window to some extent when they caught up in the excitement of Christmas. So, rather than focusing on heavy price cuts, think more about what you can offer – whether that’s quality products and perfect impulse pick-ups or a special in-store experience – to entice shoppers to open their wallets. Whilst I’m sure planning for the festive season – if it’s an important category for your business - has been in the works for many months now, we thought we’d give you a little bit of added inspiration with our Christmas range review before December rolls around. Well, inspiration of a different kind… We all know the classic lines people expect to do well in the lead up to Christmas but, before you start shelling out even more on tinsel and fairy lights, why not take a look at some of the products you are already stocking and re-imagine them with a festive twist.
