Global DIY market worth 594 billion euros


The DIY/home improvement world market turnover reached 594 billion euros in 2018, an increase of 1.1% compared to the year before, according to the latest Global Home Improvement Report. North America and Europe combined represent approximately 87% of this market, although their joint population accounts for only 17% of the world population. The DIY markets of these two continents sum 516 billion euros. North America and Europe reach 58% and 29% of the world


market respectively. The USA had the highest average DIY expenditure per capita in 2018 at 932 euros. Approximately 81% of the Global DIY market (482 billion euros) is concentrated in only eight countries: USA, Germany, Canada, Japan, United Kingdom, France,


Australia and Italy.


Moreover, the three major DIY countries in Europe (Germany, France and United Kingdom) represent 50% of the continent’s market. The top 10 major DIY retailers worldwide: Home Depot (USA), Lowe’s (USA), ADEO


(France), Kingfisher (UK), Menards (USA), Bunnings (Australia), OBI (Germany), Bauhaus (Germany), Sodimac (Chile), Ace Hardware (USA). Home Depot and Lowe’s account for 25% of the global market share. Travis Perkins reveals latest growth figures


The latest update reports that the merchanting businesses continued to outperform expectations in challenging market conditions. Travis Perkins, the general mixed merchant, showed encouraging like-for-like growth of two per cent and market share gains,

particularly in heavyside categories. The specialist merchants delivered more modest growth, primarily driven by price rises, although the continued supply restrictions on plasterboard materials in CCF has put pressure on sales volumes. The Toolstation


UK business saw “excellent growth”. Allied to this, the group has acquired a controlling share of Toolstation Europe. Like for like growth was 1.6% during Q3, with year-to-date sales up 4.7%. Toolstation, meanwhile, saw 15.4% in Q3 and 16.6% year-to-date.


Bostik launches #BluHacks campaign with Blu Tack TV ads

with Teacher’s Pet, a provider of unique and engaging classroom content, which will put the brand in front of over 250,000 teachers, parents and children in the UK. Commenting on the launch of the campaign, Jackie Roberts, category manager for stationery and repair at Bostik said: “We’re making a serious investment to support the nation’s favourite reusable adhesive. By using the #BluHacks theme, we’re able to encourage alternative uses of the product, which in turn will help drive frequency of purchase.”
