International DIY industry prepares to meet for Creativeworld 2020

specialising in hobby, arts and crafts supplies, is set to take place at Messe Frankfurt, Germany from 25-28 January 2020. Creativeworld is where


creativity meets business, with more than 350 manufacturers and over 9,000 buyers attending,

First time buyers and renters go months without furniture


Thousands of renters and first- time buyers are going without key furniture items for weeks or months after moving in, according to a new British Heart Foundation (BHF) survey. The survey of over 2000 first time buyers and renters in the UK found that roughly three in five (58%) don’t have enough money to properly furnish their new home when they move in. At least one in four (24%) wait weeks or months before getting key furniture items. As a result, nearly half of


respondents would describe the quality of their homeware and furniture as average or poor. Furthermore, roughly a quarter (23%) of first time buyers and


renters say that the interior look of their homes and the condition of their furniture and homewares has a negative impact on their wellbeing. This rose to more than a third (36%) in 16-24 year olds, many of who may be renting for the first time. The figure was highest among Londoners, with a third (30%) claiming they felt a negative impact on their wellbeing when looking at the interior of their homes. Allison Swaine-Hughes, retail


director at the BHF, said: “These survey findings show that creating a comfortable home on a modest budget can be difficult for first time buyers and renters faced with the cost of large deposits, mortgage and rental payments.”


UK wood floorcoverings market as confidence and spending levels remain subdued


The wood floorcoverings market is now more diverse than ever, with a high level of competition between the main product groups, as well as competing with floorcoverings products, such as floor tiles and LVT, according the latest research. In terms of supply, the market remains highly fragmented, with pricing being an important factor, as consumers increasingly seek value for money products. The wood floorings sector grew steadily from 2011 until 2017, but suffered marginal decline in 2018 and still remains well below the peak level of £385m achieved in 2007. Market trends had been positive since 2014, with growth strengthening until 2017, buoyed by rising consumer confidence as the economy improved and by growth in the housebuilding and wider construction sectors. However,

of consumer and business confidence levels and a lower of investment and reduction in spending on non-essentials by consumers resulted in reversal of growth in 2018. Competition with other floorcoverings materials, especially LVT,
