DIY WEEK AWARD WINNER

“Everyone who works at Broad

Street DIY shares a mutual passion for the industry and for excellence in customer service. Staff who truly enjoy their job and feel valued will naturally put forward ideas for developing the business. We take a very pro-active approach to listening to new ideas and regularly introduce new initiatives which we hope will be of benefit to our customers and/or the local community.”

Community involvement In 2015 the independent retailer ran its first in store DIY Ladies Night that proved to be “a tremendous success,” such that it is now a regular free event and there’s usually a waiting list for people who would like to attend. Broad Street DIY is currently liaising with local Scout groups and hopes to run a series of ‘how to’ DIY workshops at Scout group meetings, helping the young people as they work toward achieving their DIY Activity Badge. Mr Warren explains the thinking behind this initiative: “We are aware of the

decline in basic DIY skills among younger generations and believe it is important we play our part in helping to address this important issue. We are extremely active in supporting the local community via charity-based fundraising and specialist support projects. Our ‘Recycle Your Old Tools’ campaign in 2016 resulted in over 1,500 tools being handed in, which we donated to NewStarts, a local not-for-profit organisation that helps families or individuals on low income or in financial crisis. They ran PAT tests to ensure any electrical items were safe to use before finding new homes for all the tools.”

Moving forward Broad Street DIY is currently planning a range of new, exciting projects for 2018 but they are a closely-guarded secret at the moment. However, they could tell us about the new till system installed at the start of the year, along with plans to develop the business via an online shopping mechanism over the next few years. The new system offers

enhanced stock management, which will enable the retailer to link online sales with checking stock availability for the majority of its product lines because, as Paul Warren says, “we recognise this could be a more convenient way of shopping for some of our customers. We are actively developing the landscaping side of our business to increase sales potential. This helps us offer more of

the supplies needed by commercial builders, as well as catering for the needs of domestic customers. “Continued emphasis on in store events, excellence in customer service, strategic marketing promotion and continually monitoring the products and services our customers want, should naturally lead to enhanced organic growth.”

WINTER FUEL PACK

“Real solutions for

real people”

Each winter, thousands of people are faced with the decision of whether to eat or heat their homes. Despite the fall in energy prices, those on small pensions or low incomes are still struggling on a daily basis. As a small charity we don’t have the political

muscle to lobby government or the energy industry for change, but we can deliver help to the individuals and families that are struggling. And we can do it in a way that counts.
