AND FINALLY Tippers celebrates hospice fund-raising milestone
Independent family-owned and family-run builders merchants Tippers, based in Lichfield, have celebrated raising £200,000 over the past five years for a local children’s hospice charity. Tippers has been supporting the charity’s Walsall hospice, Acorns in the Black Country, through donations and fundraising since 2018. All money raised has helped Acorns provide specialist palliative care to more than 200 life limited children every year, plus support for families, within the hospice and in the community.
Acorns Director of Supporter Engagement, Noel Cramer, said: “On behalf of everyone at Acorns we want to thank everyone at Tippers for their truly phenomenal level of support over the past five years.
“Tippers understand on a deep and personal level the importance of giving back to the local community through the numerous causes they support, including Acorns. Their ongoing partnership and generosity towards our work is helping making a difference to the lives of countless children and

families locally.
“As a charity, two thirds of our support comes from voluntary donations, fundraising and the income from our shops, so the importance of this generosity cannot be understated.” Tippers has had formal links with Acorns since 2018 and has supported the charity with numerous fundraising activities and a series of regular and one-off donations.
Amy Tipper, director, said: “We know first-hand how important Acorns is for the local community
and we are immensely proud to have reached this fundraising milestone. A huge thank you to everyone at the company and all our customers for helping us get to this total.”
JT Dove’s fundraising hits £200,000
JT Dove finished 2022 on a high having raised £23,000 throughout the year for its chosen charity Chuf. This brings the total to £200,000 since the
charitable partnership began. In 2015 the company’s 15 branches began working to raise funds for Chuf’s Scott House (parent accomodation) as part of the ‘CHUF ‘N’ BUILDERS’ challenge. Since then, both the business and charity relationship have gone from strength to strength. Managing Director, Steve Robinson, said: “Chuf is embedded in our business plans and our work with the charity has brought a lot of fun to the workplace. The

events organised by Forterra and its employees across the country. One of these fundraisers was the ‘Day off’ raffle, where employees stood to win an extra day’s holiday entitlement. At £1 per ticket, the raffle allowed employees unlimited entries to maximise the funds raised for Mind. Each plant was allocated a day off to reward, so that there were multiple winners across the company as a whole. Another was the Cahors
challenge, in which Forterra employees undertook a 565 miles’ relay cycle across France, involving 8,700 metres of arduous hill climbing. Raising over £7500, the event allocated 50% of the funds to Mind, distributing the rest between the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK, as well as NHS charities, in recognition of the great work these have done.
The Forterra Biker Event, which
events give us a chance to connect staff across the branches and to engage with our customers and suppliers in different ways. Perhaps most
importantly is the opportunity it gives for our merchant apprentices who get the opportunity to take the lead on some of our fundraising activities and grow in skills and confidence much more quickly than they might otherwise. I’ve seen some of the quieter members of staff blossom and move up in the business because they were able to demonstrate excellent communication and leadership skills; that’s pretty special!”
raised £200, allowed employees to join together on a motorbike drive to Skegness, stopping at various meeting points along the way so that bikers could join from their respective Forterra factories and offices.
Caroline Wildman, Marketing Director for Forterra, says, “We’re proud to have been extensively involved in raising funds for such an important charity. Our employees have really risen to the challenge with each event, and the amount of participation has been inspiring.”
