HEAT PUMP GUIDE
Extra £50 million allocated for BUS T
In a policy announced last month, The Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband, has given permission for Ofgem to over-allocate vouchers by up to £50 million in this financial year, to a total of up to £200 million for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). This has been widely welcomed across the industry
he Heat Pump Association (HPA) said: “The HPA has been closely monitoring the remaining budget of the Schemes, as reported on the Ofgem website. In the past few months, we have been engaging with the team at DESNZ to flag the budgetary concern and are pleased to see that swift action has been taken by the Government to prevent a hiatus in the market.” Hamid Salimi, national product manager –
residential at Daikin, said: “Daikin welcomes Ed Miliband’s decision to allow Ofgem to over-allocate BUS vouchers for heat pumps this financial year. This decision gives much needed certainty to the industry and will allow thousands of homeowners to install low carbon heating.” Daniel Särefjord, Aira UK chief executive said:
“The government’s decision to allocate £50 million of additional funding to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme is fantastic news and shows that demand for clean energy-tech is exceeding expectations. We are seeing more and more British households warm to the potential of saving money on their energy bills this winter and beyond, thanks to the highly
efficient technology available and related clean energy tariffs. I’m sure as consumers become more aware of the benefits heat pumps offer, and the government sweeps away the needless planning policy red tape and exorbitant levies on green electricity, we will see adoption rates accelerate at great speed.”

¡ According to Ofgem, more than £100 million worth of vouchers already claimed, the remaining budget for year three was just over £45 million leading to fears that it could run dry before its deadline at the end of March 2025.
¡ According to the latest data from MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme), the UK’s quality mark for small-scale renewable energy installations, the UK has now reached 250,000 all-time certified heat pump installations.
